The Los Angeles Dodgers have been linked on multiple occasions to a potential trade for Detroit Tigers superstar pitcher Tarik Skubal.
Entering the MLB offseason, there was speculation that the Tigers could end up moving on from Skubal. However, those rumors have died down in recent weeks.
With spring training getting underway, the Dodgers have received a final verdict about a potential trade for Skubal.
Sports Illustrated’s Tom Verducci was asked if there was anything to the idea of Los Angeles pulling off a blockbuster trade for Skubal. He made it very clear that he doesn’t think a trade is coming this season.
“Yeah, I’ve never really bought into that possibility, only because of how much he means to Detroit,” Verducci said.
“The Dodgers do their due diligence. We all know that. And I think Tarik Skubal likely is not going to resign with the Tigers, if he does, it’s going to be a number that’s beyond what anywhere the Tigers have gone, even with Miguel Cabrera.”
Dodgers’ Tarik Skubal Trade Dreams Can Be Put to Bed
At least for now, it’s time to put the rumors about a Skubal to the Dodgers trade to rest. It’s not going to happen before the 2026 season.
More than likely, Los Angeles won’t have a chance to acquire him before the trade deadline either.
Skubal could still end up finding his way out of Detroit at some point in time. If the two sides ever reach a point where they can’t get a deal done, the Tigers might move him. The Dodgers will be a team to watch closely when that happens.
Detroit is very clearly hoping to contend during the 2026 MLB season. Without Skubal, those chances would take a massive hit. There simply isn’t a reason for the Tigers to move him right now.
What Does Skubal Bring to the Mound?
There are not many pitchers in Major League Baseball that belong in the same category as Skubal. He is one of the best pitchers in the game, although with Pittsburgh Pirates superstar Paul Skenes and a few other names.
During the 2025 MLB season with Detroit, the 29-year-old ace pitcher made 31 starts. He compiled a 13-6 record to go along with a 2.21 ERA, a 0.89 WHIP, a 7.3 K/BB ratio, and 195.1 innings pitched.
It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Los Angeles. Skubal will likely remain on the team’s radar. Even though he’s not available now, the future could give the Dodgers a chance to revisit this situation.
While fans would have loved to see Skubal in Los Angeles, that simply isn’t going to happen right now.
