Rangers Eye Two-Time Champion for Key Bullpen Role in 2026

The Texas Rangers are looking to bolster their bullpen, and they’ve turned to a seasoned veteran who knows a thing or two about winning. Enter Ryan Brasier, a two-time World Series champion, who just inked a deal right before the start of spring training. At 38, Brasier is aiming to bring his experience and talent to the Rangers’ bullpen by Opening Day.

Brasier’s World Series pedigree is exactly what the Rangers need. Drafted in the sixth round by the Los Angeles Angels, Brasier spent time refining his skills in Japan before making a triumphant return to the majors with the Boston Red Sox in 2018. That year, alongside current Rangers’ co-ace Nathan Eovaldi, he helped Boston clinch the World Series against the Dodgers, boasting a stellar 1.60 ERA in 34 games and allowing just one run in nine postseason appearances.

Fast forward to 2024, and Brasier added another championship ring with the Dodgers, playing a crucial role in their bullpen. His knack for keeping walks to a minimum aligns perfectly with the Rangers’ pitching philosophy.

Last season, Brasier was in the top 10 percentile for walk rate, an impressive feat even if he didn’t pitch enough innings to qualify officially. With a career K/BB ratio that includes 301 strikeouts to just 89 walks over 311 innings, Brasier fits right into the Rangers’ style.

The Rangers led the MLB last year in ERA, WHIP, and earned runs, and their disciplined approach to limiting walks was a key factor in their success. However, Brasier’s challenge will be staying healthy. Over the past two seasons, calf and groin strains have limited him to just 57 games with the Dodgers and Cubs, affecting his consistency and landing him a minor league deal this offseason.

Despite these setbacks, Brasier’s championship experience and veteran presence make him a valuable asset for the Rangers. He’s not expected to be the bullpen’s savior but rather a reliable arm that can contribute in crucial moments. If he can stay on the mound, Brasier might just be the magic the Rangers need to enhance their already formidable pitching staff.
