Mike Tomlin’s legacy with the Pittsburgh Steelers is one for the ages. His impact was so profound that, following his departure after the Steelers’ AFC Wild Card exit in the 2025-26 season, a Zoom call was organized, gathering over 70 people who wanted to express their gratitude to the legendary coach.
Former Steelers wide receiver Nate Washington shared on the Bullseye View podcast that this virtual gathering was a testament to Tomlin’s influence. “We literally just had a Zoom call with Mike T. with over 70 people … just to say thank you to Mike T, all individually,” Washington recounted. The call lasted nearly two hours, highlighting not just the culture of the Steelers, but the kind of person Tomlin was-an inspirational and motivational figure who left a mark on players both young and old.
Washington reflected on Tomlin’s unique ability to connect with players, saying, “You feel a little closer.” He recalled how Tomlin’s personal encouragement before games boosted his confidence, making him feel like more than just a backup, but someone ready to step up as a starter.
Throughout his 19 seasons with the Steelers, Tomlin never allowed the team to post a losing record. From 2007 to 2025, he consistently delivered winning seasons, a remarkable feat in the NFL.
Under his leadership, the Steelers reached the pinnacle in 2008, securing a victory over the Arizona Cardinals in Super Bowl 43. Tomlin guided them to another Super Bowl in 2010, though they fell to the Green Bay Packers.
Tomlin’s tenure concluded with an impressive 193-114-2 record and 13 AFC North Division titles. As the Steelers transition into a new era with Mike McCarthy as head coach, they aim to build on Tomlin’s legacy. Last season, Pittsburgh finished 10-7, capturing the AFC North title but falling short against the Houston Texans in the playoffs.
Looking ahead, the Steelers are focused on retooling their roster through the draft and free agency, with aspirations of returning to the Super Bowl stage-a level of success that Tomlin established early in his career with the team.
