Alex Bregman has officially been introduced as a Chicago Cub.

The Chicago Cubs are coming into the 2026 season with firm expectations of playing in October and making the MLB playoffs. They lost Kyle Tucker to the Los Angeles Dodgers, which sent shockwaves across baseball, but Chicago also signed Alex Bregman to a five-year extension to help solidify the lineup once again.

Alex Bregman understands the task at hand is to take down the Dodgers, but the Cubbies also have to worry about the Milwaukee Brewers in their own division. Aside from signing Bregman, the Cubs have had a quality offseason by trading for Edward Cabrera and bolstering their bullpen with pieces like Phil Maton and Hunter Harvey. So, what was Bregman’s message regarding the tough National League and competing with the Dodgers?

Alex Bregman Wants to Play in October with the Cubs

Alex Bregman is no stranger to the MLB playoffs, and likely a big factor in him ultimately signing with the Cubs is because of the team’s chances to play in October.

In a recent exclusive interview with RG.org’s Kyle Odegard, Alex Bregman details his excitement level to compete against the Dodgers and potentially play in October again:

“100%, one of the things that is so fun is playing October baseball. I feel like that’s why we play the game. I want to play October baseball at Wrigley.”

The Dodgers added to their already loaded lineup by bringing in Kyle Tucker to shore up the outfield further, and another big splash Los Angeles made was signing closer Edwin Diaz.

A lot of MLB reporters believed Bregman might re-sign with the Red Sox due to Fenway Park’s Green Monster, which allows right-handed hitters to record doubles more frequently. Bregman addressed that question as well in his sit down with Odegard. Here is what Bregman had to say about if he’s confident his swing will transition well:

“I do,” Bregman said. “I feel like I hit the ball to the left-center field gap. I drive the ball to the pull side in the air. And I’ll try to hit doubles line to line.”

Cubs Now Enter 2026 with High Expectations

The Chicago Cubs were one of the good stories in MLB a season ago. It’s not that nobody thought they could make the playoffs, but the Cubs took the league by storm in the early months of the season behind Tucker, Pete Crow-Armstrong, and Seiya Suzuki’s production.

Minus Tucker, but Chicago has pretty much the same cast of characters for 2026, and one of the best infields in baseball now with Bregman at third, Nico Hoerner/Dansby Swanson up the middle, and Michael Busch at first.

The Cubs now enter 2026 with high expectations, especially after the Brewers traded away Freddy Peralta, which certainly opens the door further for Chicago to take the NL Central crown.
