The Rangers are now less than three weeks away from their first Spring Training game, and hopes have been buoyed by the signing of MacKenzie Gore to solidify the starting rotation further.

But the question of whether the 2026 version of the team will be able to hit enough and give the necessary run support remains.

With that in mind, promising young minor league middle infielder Cameron Cauley is a potential breakout candidate who could surprise in Surprise and give the offense a much-needed boost once the season starts. The Rangers have extended him a non-roster spring training invitation, so he’ll get an extended look.

Texas Rangers infield prospect Cameron Cauley is quietly putting together solid minor league numbers

Playing all of 2025 at Double-A Frisco with the Rough Riders, the 22-year-old Cam Cauley played in 113 games, logging 435 at-bats. He hit .253 with 15 home runs and 51 RBIs. He led the team in extra base hits, bettering superstar prospect Sebastian Walcott, with 48, including 26 doubles and 7 triples.

The 5-foot-10-inch, 175-pound second baseman and shortstop also has great speed, swiping 28 bases while being caught just seven times. Scouts have routinely used former Red Sox all-star second baseman Dustin Pedroia as a comp for Cauley.

Defensively, Cauley has shown plus range and a good arm while primarily playing second base. He also plays a solid shortstop.

Cameron Cauley could easily be the breakout star for the Rangers during 2026 Spring Training

Cauley has consistently been a standout, as he has quickly made his way through the Rangers’ minor league system. He has been overshadowed by Sebastian Walcott, but has shown that he can also put up big-time numbers when given the chance.

The organization acquired Cauley, who will turn 23 on February 6, with the 73rd pick in the 3rd round of the 2021 draft, and he has established an upward trajectory that has put him in a position to contribute at the major league level soon.

He could find himself in Arlington as early as 2026 with the questions surrounding who will permanently replace Marcus Semien at 2B. With Corey Seager’s injury history, he could also be in the conversation to be a long-term fill-in and eventually the heir apparent at shortstop.

Cauley was the 8th-ranked Rangers prospect going into the 2025 season, and he seems poised to take another step forward in 2026.
