Steelers Successfully Sign Former Saints WR Star Who Posted Back-to-Back 1,500+ Yard Seasons, Marking Head Coach Mike McCarthy’s First Move in Overhaul Effort

In a bold move signaling the beginning of a major rebuild under new head coach Mike McCarthy, the Pittsburgh Steelers have successfully signed former New Orleans Saints wide receiver A.T. Perry. Known for his explosive ability to make plays downfield, Perry’s addition marks McCarthy’s first step toward reshaping the Steelers’ offense as they aim to become a stronger contender in the upcoming season.

Perry, a standout in college at Wake Forest, was drafted by the Saints in the sixth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. Over the course of his rookie season, he made a notable impact, logging 12 receptions for 246 yards (an average of 20.5 yards per catch) and four touchdowns across 10 games, with three starts. What stands out about Perry’s potential is his consistent performance in college — he posted two consecutive 1,500-yard seasons with double-digit touchdowns, showing an ability to dominate at a high level.

Standing 6’3” and weighing 198 pounds, Perry is a big-bodied receiver with excellent speed, running a 4.47-second 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine. His size and speed combination make him a serious deep threat on the field, and Steelers fans are eager to see how he fits into the offense.

Although he was waived by the Saints in 2024, Perry’s journey continued with the Denver Broncos, where he spent time on their practice squad for two seasons without seeing game action. The Steelers have now offered him a chance to compete for a spot in their 2026 wide receiver room, a position undergoing transformation under McCarthy’s leadership.

“This is the first step in many changes to restructure the team,” McCarthy said in a statement. “A.T. brings a new energy to our offense, and we’re excited to have a player with his size, speed, and ability to create big plays. We believe he is a key piece necessary to become an important contributor in the future.”

As McCarthy begins his tenure as head coach of the Steelers, this signing signals a shift toward bringing in players who can stretch the field and create big-play opportunities, something the team has lacked in recent seasons. Perry now has the chance to prove himself in Pittsburgh, and with his skill set, he could be a key piece in restoring the Steelers’ offensive firepower.
