The Giants are among the teams interested in free agent pitcher Zac Gallen.

The San Francisco Giants had a disappointing 2025 season. The Giants finished the 2025 campaign with an underwhelming 81-81 record and missed the playoffs for the fourth straight year. With this, they are entering the 2026 campaign with the hope of bouncing back.

With the Giants looking to take that next step and be a playoff team, they have made some moves this offseason. They have brought in multiple new players, like Tyler Mahle, Adrian Houser, Sam Hentges, and Jason Foley. However, the Giants certainly should not be done yet, as their roster undoubtedly could still use some improvement.

One need that the Giants have is another impactful starting pitcher. It is clear that their rotation would benefit from getting a boost, and they have now been named among the top suitors for one of the league’s top free agents.

Giants Among the Teams Interested in All-Star Free Agent Zac Gallen

In a recent article for The Athletic, Jim Bowden took a look at the top remaining free agents who are still on the market and which teams are interested in them. Starting pitcher Zac Gallen was among the players that Bowden discussed. In addition, Bowden shared that the Giants are one of multiple teams that have expressed interest in Gallen so far this offseason.

“The Diamondbacks would love to get him back and are considered the front-runners to re-sign him (and wouldn’t have to give up a draft pick to do it). However, several teams have shown interest, including the Orioles, Braves, Giants, Tigers and others,” Bowden wrote about Gallen’s market.

Hearing that the Giants are among the teams with interest in Gallen is entirely understandable. When looking at their current rotation, there is no question that they could use a solid pitcher like Gallen right now. He could slot nicely in the middle of their rotation and would also give them another starter with a good amount of experience, which would not be a bad thing.

Gallen appeared in 33 games this past season with the Arizona Diamondbacks, where he posted a 13-15 record, a 4.83 ERA, and 175 strikeouts. Overall, the 30-year-old starter had a bit of a down year for his standards, but he certainly could bounce back with the Giants if they landed him.

Keep in mind, just back in 2024 with Arizona, Gallen had a 14-6 record and a 3.65 ERA. This was also after he had a 17-9 record, a 3.47 ERA, and a career-high 220 strikeouts in 2023, where he was an All-Star. With this, he would have the potential to be a great pickup for the Giants if he turned things around.

Giants Have Plenty of Competition for Gallen

While the Giants are in the mix for Gallen, they understandably are not the only team interested. According to Bowden, the Diamondbacks, Baltimore Orioles, Atlanta Braves, and Detroit Tigers are all expressing interest in Gallen this offseason.

With this, the Giants undoubtedly have a good amount of competition for Gallen’s services. It will be interesting to see if San Francisco ends up winning the sweepstakes for the seven-year veteran from here.
