Cardinals provide an update on what it’ll take for them to trade Brendan Donovan

Cardinals provide an update on what it'll take for them to trade Brendan Donovan - Yahoo SportsOver the course of the offseason, St. Louis Cardinals’ second-baseman and utility player, Brendan Donovan, has been involved in many trade rumors, with him projected to be traded for by teams such as the San Francisco Giants and Seattle Mariners.

However, despite the rumors, the Cardinals have made it clear they value Donovan highly and are not willing to let him go without receiving reasonable compensation.

During Friday’s episode of ‘MLB Tonight’ on MLB Network, insider Katie Woo described where the organization’s mind is at regarding trading Donovan.

Cardinals rumors: Godfather offer needed for Brendan Donovan trade

“The Cardinals do not feel the need to trade (Brendan) Donovan, and they will only do so if they are blown away by an offer,” Woo stated.

For a franchise that has a history of many great players who played a massive role in their recent World Series wins, the five-year second baseman should be honored by the Cardinals, wanting to retain him on the team unless they are getting a player who has either the same or a greater impact than Donovan.

Through his first four seasons with the team, Donovan has proved to be a valuable asset by showing his versatility in the outfield as he has starred in many defensive positions, while also being a reliable bat in the starting lineup, with a .287 batting average this past season and 40 home runs for his career.

It’s still unclear whether the Cardinals will eventually move on from Donovan, as things can always change between now and spring training. Still, the organization is giving an idea of what it will take to pry a young talent like Donovan away from them.

Cardinals' stance on a potential Brendan Donovan trade should thrill fans
