Miami Heat Face Key Injury Concerns Ahead of Utah Jazz Matchup

Miami Heat center Kel’el Ware has been sent back to Miami for treatment on his hamstring, adding another obstacle to a team already dealing with injury challenges this season.
Ware will miss the Heat’s upcoming game against the Utah Jazz on Saturday, January 24, marking the latest in a string of health issues for Miami.
According to Iran Winderman of the Sun Sentinel, Ware will sit out the final two games of the Heat’s West Coast road trip to undergo dedicated treatment and rehabilitation in Miami.
The 20-year-old center last appeared in the Heat’s 135-112 loss to the Golden State Warriors on January 19, finishing with 15 points and 4 rebounds in just 18 minutes, showing his potential despite limited playing time.
Before this hamstring setback, Ware was considered one of Miami’s healthiest players this season, having missed only two games prior to this injury, a rare streak of durability on a team plagued by absences.
Tyler Herro Also Out
In addition to Ware, guard Tyler Herro has been ruled out against the Jazz due to a rib injury, compounding Miami’s availability issues.
Herro was initially sidelined at the start of the five-game West Coast trip for an MRI to assess the rib injury and has missed multiple games as a result.
This season has been one of the most inconsistent of Herro’s career in terms of staying healthy and remaining on the court, as he has appeared in only 11 of the Heat’s 45 games to date.
The current pace would mark a career-low in games played, eclipsing his previous fewest of 42 games during the 2023-24 season, highlighting the impact of recurring injuries on Miami’s rotation.
Additional Key Players Questionable

The Heat could also be without two additional key contributors against Utah.
Norman Powell, battling lower back tightness, and guard Davion Mitchell, recovering from a shoulder injury sustained against the Phoenix Suns on January 13, are both listed as questionable for Saturday’s contest.
Mitchell missed two games due to the shoulder injury before returning against Golden State and the Sacramento Kings, but he did not play in the Heat’s most recent game against the Portland Trail Blazers.
Powell, meanwhile, has continued to play through discomfort in pursuit of his first NBA All-Star appearance, demonstrating toughness despite lingering back pain throughout much of the season.
Both players are expected to suit up for the Jazz game, but Miami’s rotation will be tested with Ware and Herro sidelined.
Utah Jazz Injury Notes
The Jazz will be without forward Lauri Markkanen against Miami, as he is sidelined with an illness and currently undergoing reconditioning.
The absence of Markkanen, coupled with Ware and Herro’s unavailability, creates a unique matchup scenario that could favor the Heat if they manage to stabilize their lineup effectively.
This presents a critical opportunity for Miami to capitalize on a weakened Jazz roster while managing its own injury challenges.
Can Miami Break the Inconsistency Pattern?
The Heat have been one of the NBA’s most up-and-down teams this season, alternating wins and losses for the past seven games, creating a frustrating pattern for players and fans alike.
The next two games, featuring a back-to-back against the Utah Jazz and Phoenix Suns, offer Miami a chance to end that streak and regain momentum heading into the second half of the season.
Both opponents will also be without key franchise stars, with Markkanen out for Utah and Devin Booker likely sidelined for Phoenix, giving Miami an opportunity to compete against compromised lineups.
If Miami can navigate the next two contests effectively, even with Ware and Herro out, the team could begin to stabilize its season and regain confidence heading into February.
