RUMOR: Brewers Eyeing Division Rival’s Star For Unexpected Position Change

As the MLB offseason approaches, the Milwaukee Brewers appear poised to make some strategic moves to enhance their lineup for the 2025 season. The rumor mill is buzzing as free agency looms, and one name that’s capturing attention is Paul Goldschmidt, a seasoned slugger who has spent his recent years with the St.

Louis Cardinals. It’s reported that the Cardinals aren’t planning to retain Goldschmidt, which opens the door for negotiations with other teams.

According to insider chatter from The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, several teams could potentially provide a new home for Goldschmidt, with the New York Yankees, Seattle Mariners, Arizona Diamondbacks, and the Brewers themselves all in the mix. Despite a slightly down year—batting .245 with 56 extra-base hits, including 22 home runs and 65 RBIs in 154 games—Goldschmidt still offers plenty of pop, capable of bolstering any lineup that acquires him.

Currently, Milwaukee has Rhys Hoskins manning first base, and with Hoskins expected to return for at least the next season, the Brewers would need to get creative to bring Goldschmidt into the fold. Options like shifting Hoskins to the designated hitter position could be explored, offering flexibility and a potential power surge to their batting lineup.

However, the Brewers will face stiff competition for the former National League MVP’s signature, considering the financial might of the other interested teams. Whether Milwaukee can orchestrate a savvy roster maneuver to accommodate Goldschmidt remains to be seen, but adding a player of his caliber could be exactly what they need to contend in the ever-competitive NL Central.
