🚨 THE DOOR SLAMS SHUT IN NEW ORLEANS: Jake Haener has officially been released by the New Orleans Saints, and insiders say his return is now “highly unlikely.” The move signals a dramatic shift in the team’s quarterback plans and leaves Haener’s future hanging by a thread. As the Saints chart a new course, his chapter in New Orleans may already be sealed. 👇👇👇

Well, not everyone can be a New Orleans Saint for life, and on Monday, some players found that to be the case. Most notable of the departures was quarterback Jake Haener, who has been in New Orleans since 2023.

Furthermore, per NewOrleans.Football’s Nick Underhill, Haener is not expected to be back with the Saints in 2026. All things considered, that’s not very surprising, especially when you remember that two quarterbacks (Spencer Rattler, Tyler Shough) have been drafted since Haener was taken in the fourth round.

However, that’s not to say that the former fourth-round selection never got his shot. Throughout his time in New Orleans, Haener consistently impressed in offseason practices, which led to him getting some real shots last season when Derek Carr was injured. Unfortunately for him, he was never able to translate what he did in practice to the field, seemingly getting the yips every time he got his shot. In his career, he’s completed 46.2% of his passes for 226 yards, one touchdown, and one interception.

Former Saints QB Jake Haener won’t be out of the NFL just yet

Despite him currently not having a contract with a team in the National Football League, Jake Haener likely isn’t done with being a professional quarterback. He practiced hard and clearly knew a ton about football, which are two qualities that are sure to attract other teams in the league. Specifically, teams like the Minnesota Vikings, Las Vegas Raiders, and Philadelphia Eagles (who will all need backup quarterbacks in 2026) are some sqauds that might be interested in Haener.

Even if his time on the field is over, Haener likely still isn’t done with football. In the same report, where Underhill said Haener won’t be back, he said that he thinks Haener would have a successful career in coaching if he chose to go that route.

This is a testament of Haener’s mind. He might not have the ability to be a starter, but there’s clearly respect for Haener’s mental. You look at Kellen Moore. Starting wasn’t in the cards for him, but he immediately jumped into starting after his career. If lucky, Haener will find success in the coaching route
