Astros fans are losing their minds — this blockbuster Red Sox trade could ABSOLUTELY happen now that the Cubs just stole Alex Bregman! 🚨

Astros could swing trade with Red Sox after Cubs sign Alex Bregman | Sporting News

The Houston Astros and general manager Dana Brown have some work to do this winter, especially with the crowded infield.

Not much action has happened lately, but thanks to old friend Alex Bregman signing with the Chicago Cubs instead of the Boston Red Sox, a trade opened up.

According to Chandler Rome of The Athletic, the Astros might now be able to swing a trade with the Red Sox with one of their infielders after Boston lost Bregman to the Cubs. Specifically, Isaac Paredes could be a clear trade target for Boston.

“Boston expressed interest in Isaac Paredes during the Winter Meetings and, now without Bregman, could re-engage in its pursuit of Houston’s pull-happy third baseman,” Rome writes.

Paredes would make a lot of sense for the Red Sox, especially with the Green Monster in left field creating an interesting dynamic with the pull-hitting Paredes.

The All-Star third baseman is in the final year of his deal and would be a very reasonable trade target for Boston after losing Bregman to the Cubs.

While Nico Hoerner, Alec Bohm, and Brendan Donovan are all possible options to replace Bregman’s roster spot, Paredes might be their best option this winter.

Hoerner and Donovan might be too expensive to trade for, while Bohm doesn’t carry the same power that Paredes has.

Houston is open to moving Paredes as well, as clearing some of the infield would make a lot of sense. With little interest in a Christian Walker trade, Paredes is the Astros’ best trade chip.

Thanks to Bregman signing with the Cubs over the Red Sox, Boston might be more desperate for a third baseman.

With Houston being open to a deal, and the two sides already linking in talks before on Paredes at the Winter Meetings, this trade would make a lot of sense for both sides.
