Tylor Megill made a vital tweak to finish 2024 — how much can the Mets rely on this version?

The 2024 season was yet another of those seasons for Tylor Megill — filled with flashes and frustrations. The Mets starting pitcher has had stuff that can look unhittable, right before it becomes wholly hittable.

There is reason for optimism, though, and the Mets will have to decide how much they believe in a 29-year-old pitcher who looked far different at the end of the season than he did at the start.

The Mets optioned Megill back to Triple-A Syracuse on June 30 after the talented righty was lit up in two straight outings, ballooning his ERA to 5.08.

Megill was summoned about a month later and finished strong, posting a combined 3.00 ERA in his final eight games and 39 innings — stats racked up with a new pitch.

Of all the players rumored to be on the trade market, there might not be a surer one to be moved than Boston Red Sox outfielder Jarren Duran. It’s basic math: The Red Sox don’t have enough at-bats for all of Duran, Wilyer Abreu, Roman Anthony and Masataka Yoshida, doubly so if they add someone like Kyle Schwarber or Pete Alonso in free agency. Duran isn’t so good that he’s untouchable, but he’s good enough that his three remaining years of arbitration figure to have some value around the league.
