Alex Bregman is entering a new chapter. After a year with the Boston Red Sox, the star third baseman is moving to a new team. Alex Bregman signed a contract with the Chicago Cubs, per Jeff Passan.“BREAKING: Third baseman Alex Bregman and the Chicago Cubs are in agreement on a free agent contract, sources tell ESPN,” Passan posted on X.

Bob Nightengale reports that Bregman’s contract will not have an opt-out clause like his previous deal with the Red Sox. However, the new Cubs third baseman has a no-trade clause in his new contract.
A long-time member of the Houston Astros, Bregman signed a three-year contract with the Red Sox last season. Bregman posted an OPS of .821 last season and hit 18 home runs, but Boston failed to make it to the postseason. After the season, the third-baseman opted out of his contract to test free agency.

The Cubs are coming off a successful season where they made it to the Divisional Series. However, when facing the Milwaukee Brewers, the Cubs fell just short of their goal. They almost pulled off the reverse sweep against the Brewers, but they fell just short in Game 5 and was ultimately eliminated from title contention.
