Dodgers reorganize coaching staff, give Bob Geren a new role – Orange County Register

LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers have long been lauded for their depth of talent throughout the farm system, but one prospect in particular emerged as a standout in 2025.

MLB.com named Dodgers No. 5 prospect and MLB No. 64 overall prospect Mike Sirota as the breakout performer for the organization last season, highlighting his rapid ascent through the minors.

Sirota, an outfielder, was acquired by Los Angeles from the Cincinnati Reds in the Gavin Lux trade last offseason, before he had even played a single professional game.

The Dodgers clearly saw enormous potential in Sirota, who had been a likely first-round pick prior to a junior season slump at Northeastern University in 2024, which caused his draft stock to drop to the third round with Cincinnati.

Even with that setback, Sirota wasted no time proving his worth in the Dodgers’ system, splitting time between Single-A Rancho Cucamonga and High-A Great Lakes in 2025.

Over 59 games combined, Sirota posted a staggering OPS above 1.000, showcasing a rare blend of contact ability, power, and on-base discipline that has scouts buzzing about his potential impact at the major league level.

In Single-A, Sirota shredded pitching through 24 games with the Quakes, batting an impressive .354 with seven home runs and 24 RBIs, immediately signaling his readiness for promotion.

The Dodgers moved quickly to High-A Great Lakes in May, and Sirota did not miss a beat, hitting above .300 across 35 games, adding six homers and 30 RBIs while increasing his on-base percentage to .458.

While his slugging dipped slightly after the promotion, his ability to consistently get on base and produce runs made him a standout performer, demonstrating a level of maturity and skill well beyond his experience.

MLB.com noted that Sirota is also the grand-nephew of Hall of Famer Whitey Ford, linking him to a storied baseball lineage that adds an interesting historical footnote to his rising career.

“A likely first-rounder before slumping during his junior season at Northeastern in 2024, Sirota dropped to the Reds in the third round, then went to the Dodgers in the Gavin Lux trade last January before even making his pro debut,” the MLB.com article reads.

Injuries did interrupt Sirota’s season — he suffered a right knee injury on a slide in July — but even that setback didn’t diminish the excitement surrounding his performance and potential.

Dodgers director of player development Will Rhymes praised Sirota’s competitive nature and focus, noting that he impacts the game in every aspect.

“We knew he was extremely talented and tooled out before acquiring him, but what we didn’t know was just how competitive and focused he is,” Rhymes said.

“His work ethic and intensity toward his craft give us tremendous confidence that he’ll continue to dominate on his way to Los Angeles,” Rhymes added, highlighting the intangible qualities that set Sirota apart from his peers.

Sirota was originally drafted in the 16th round of the 2021 MLB Draft by the Dodgers but chose to play college baseball at Northeastern University, a decision that allowed him to refine his skills and develop into a top-tier prospect.

His combination of high contact rates, power potential, and plate discipline has drawn comparisons to some of the Dodgers’ most dynamic outfielders in recent memory.

Los Angeles Dodgers manager Dave Roberts will never get the respect he deserves

The Dodgers will hope Sirota can stay healthy throughout 2026, as his performance last year strongly suggests he is on track to rise quickly through the minor leagues.

With Los Angeles aiming to maintain its status as one of baseball’s elite franchises, developing homegrown talent like Sirota is critical to sustaining long-term success and establishing a dynasty for years to come.

Sirota’s story is a testament to scouting acumen, player development, and the importance of resilience, as he overcame the disappointment of falling in the draft to emerge as one of the Dodgers’ most promising young stars.

As fans watch the Dodgers’ farm system closely, Sirota represents a player who could make a significant impact in Los Angeles in the near future, potentially joining the ranks of the team’s established core stars.

If he can replicate his 2025 success, remain healthy, and continue to refine his tools, Sirota could be a foundational piece for the Dodgers for years to come, embodying both performance and potential.

With his blend of talent, pedigree, and mental toughness, Mike Sirota is a prospect whose journey will be followed closely by fans, analysts, and rival organizations as he climbs the Dodgers’ system.

In 2026, all eyes will be on Sirota to see if he can maintain his breakout form, further solidifying his place among baseball’s elite prospects and continuing to justify the Dodgers’ faith in acquiring him.
