🚨 MLB INSIDE WHISPERS: Something big is quietly brewing behind closed doors in New York, as new projections hint the Yankees may be lining up an elite shortstop signing that goes far beyond a normal free-agency move. What started as a low-key prediction is now being viewed as a potential power shift, with insiders suggesting this decision could redefine the Yankees’ identity and force the entire American League to adjust sooner than expected.

The New York Yankees haven’t done much during the offseason, but MLB rumors continue to swirl. New York has been linked to signing Cody Bellinger or Kyle Tucker, while exploring the possibility of acquiring a starting pitcher. However, the Yankees have also been predicted to sign an elite free-agent shortstop.

ESPN’s David Schoenfield has predicted the Yankees to sign free-agent shortstop Bo Bichette during the MLB offseason. Bichette, who has spent his entire career with the Toronto Blue Jays, is projected to earn a five-year, $150 million contract after a strong 2025 MLB season.

In 2025, Bichette hit 18 home runs and drove in 94 runs, while posting a .840 OPS. The free-agent infielder bounced back after a tough 2024 season, as he played under 100 games. Now, Bichette is projected to earn a massive contract and land in the Bronx this winter.

Bichette going to New York would be a much-needed addition to the team as the AL East continues to improve this offseason. However, where would the long-time Blue Jay play on defense? The most logical spot would be second base if the Yankees traded Jazz Chisholm Jr. before the season.

Chisholm has been involved in MLB trade rumors as he enters the final year of his contract. Therefore, New York could decide to maximize its value and sign Bichette to a long-term contract. If not, it becomes tricky since Anthony Volpe is the starting shortstop in the Bronx.

Bichette doesn’t have great infield defense, but a team is mostly signing him for the offensive production. The 27-year-old infielder would thrive in Yankee Stadium, making him a great fit offensively. However, New York has to decide how to work the infield defense if he were to sign with the organization.

Right now, the Yankees want to re-sign Bellinger and acquire a front-end starting pitcher. Bichette would be a good fit offensively, but the defensive alignment would be the biggest concern. If New York swings and misses on Bellinger and Tucker, Bichette would be a great backup option.
