Giants to sign former Brewers, White Sox starter to $22 million deal | Sporting News

The San Francisco Giants are in the market for a new starting pitcher to pair with Logan Webb, Landen Roupp, and Robbie Ray. Justin Verlander is likely signing elsewhere, leaving potentially two holes in the rotation.

While the Giants aren’t likely to sign a top name like Tatsuya Imai, Framber Valdez, or Ranger Suarez, they have been linked to a few of the smaller and cheaper names on the market.

According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, the Giants are signing a former Milwaukee Brewers, Chicago White Sox starting pitcher to a two-year, $22 million deal. Adrian Houser, after being acquired by the Tampa Bay Rays in 2025, is now coming to San Francisco.

Giants to sign Adrian Houser to $22 million two-year deal

“Right-hander Adrian Houser and the San Francisco Giants are in agreement on a two-year, $22 million contract with a club option for a third year.” Passan reports.

San Francisco has been searching for pitching help this winter, and their additions of Jason Foley and Houser on December 16th are two moves to bolster the overall pitching staff.

Houser is coming off an odd 2025 season. He spent 11 starts with the White Sox, where he had a 2.10 ERA and 3.0 bWAR. But, after getting traded to the Rays, he recorded a. 4.79 ERA in 10 starts with 0.3 bWAR.

Houser is a 32-year-old veteran who will be 33 at the start of the 2026 season. He’s been in the Majors for a long time, making his initial MLB debut all the way back in 2015. But he first secured a consistent role in 2019 and has been a decent pitcher since.

His best season came in 2025, even with his rough Rays stint. Between the two teams, Houser had 21 starts with a 3.31 ERA and an 8-5 record worth 3.3 bWAR.

He might not have been the best starting pitcher available in free agency, but the promise he showed in 2025 is enough that the Giants $22 million investment, while not cheap, could be well worth it.
