NFL legend Tom Brady has literally been in the shoes of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, who suffered a devastating season-ending injury in Sundayâs loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.
Mahomes is now done for the rest of the season after tearing the ACL in his left knee late in Sundayâs loss.

Similar to Mahomes, Brady also suffered a season-ending ACL tear during his career.
It was also during Bradyâs ninth season in the NFL and after he had already won three Super Bowls with the New England Patriots.
Similarly, Mahomes is currently in Year 9 with the Chiefs and is also a three-time Super Bowl winner.

Sundayâs defeat also marked the end of Kansas Cityâs playoff chase.
It was their third straight loss, which saw their record fall to 6-8. They had a slight chance of making the postseason heading into the Chargers game, but the loss officially eliminated them from playoff contention.
Brady had a lot to say about Mahomesâ situation during an appearance on Mondayâs episode of the âLetâs Go!â podcast with Matthew Stafford, Maxx Crosby, Peter King and Jim Gray.
The 15-time Pro Bowl quarterback took the opportunity to send a message for Mahomes.
âThe only thing you can do is focus on whatâs ahead of you and not look back,â Brady told host Jim Gray, via NBCâs Pro Football Talk. âAnd just say, âOK, this is part of what my career is going to be.â
And a lot of people have gone through it and a lot of people have overcome it. Youâve just got to put as much diligence into the rehab process.
âAnd I always feel like the faster you rehab, the faster you can get back to practicing the sport that you know you love. I think sometimes people will pace themselves. Instead of training mode, theyâre in rehab mode. I think you gotta get through rehab mode as fast as possible and then you get back to training mode.
âBut that requires an all-out commitment and itâs the same commitment that the great professional athletes make to be great at their profession. When you go through the rehab process, you need that same level of focus and determination.â
Thatâs exactly what Brady went through when he rehabbed his ACL tear. He went on to win four more Super Bowls after that career-threatening injury. Brady, however, also hit Mahomes with a harsh reality check on what heâs about to face.
âItâs a tough rehab,â Brady said. âItâs one of the toughest rehabs. I just remember every day pushing myself. And itâs always the same amount of pain and discomfort except youâre making progress through that pain and discomfort, which is a hard psychological thing to battle.
âYou feel like, God, every day, it doesnât feel right. Except youâre gaining range of motion and youâre gaining strength and you are on the road to recovery. So I wish him the very best.â
As Brady pointed out, itâs going to be a hard road ahead for Mahomes.
The Chiefs superstar underwent surgery on Monday night, and the team announced that he will immediately begin his rehab. At this point, however, the Chiefs have yet to reveal his recovery timetable.

Kansas City has three more games left this season. They return to action on Sunday in a road game against the Tennessee Titans.
