Yankees’ Interest in Blockbuster Trade Receives Brutal Update

The New York Yankees have been linked to quite a few major potential moves this offseason. One of those moves had to do with a potential blockbuster trade for a star second baseman.

Ketel Marte has been connected as a potential trade target for the Yankees. He’s coming off of a massive 2025 MLB season with the Arizona Diamondbacks and would be a welcome addition to the New York lineup.

Unfortunately, the team’s hopes of pulling off a trade for Marte have received a brutal update.

According to a report from MLB insider Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic, the Yankees happen to be on Marte’s no-trade list.

“Marte has a five-team no-trade list,” Rosenthal wrote. “The Athletics, New York Yankees, Pittsburgh Pirates, Giants and Cardinals, according to people briefed on his contract.”

While the news doesn’t necessarily rule out a trade for Marte, it’s clear that the star second baseman has reservations about playing in New York. He would have to be willing to waive that no-trade clause for any trade with the Yankees to work out.

Throughout the course of the 2025 MLB season with the Diamondbacks, Marte played in 126 games. He hit 28 home runs to go along with 72 RBI and a slash line of .283/.376/.517.

Adding those numbers to the lineup would make New York a much better all-around team and improve their World Series chances.

At 32 years old, Marte has turned into a hot commodity in the trade rumor mill. The Yankees are just one of many teams who have been urged to consider trading for him.

With the MLB hot stove heating up, New York will be a team to keep a close eye on. Each and every year, the Yankees are a threat to sign or acquire the top names who become available.

New York should still have interest in a trade for Marte. He may not have interest in joining the Yankees, but the move is worth exploring.

Expect to hear a lot more speculation about what New York could do this offseason. The Yankees still have needs to address and as usual appear to have an aggressive approach this offseason if the rumors are accurate.
