Patrick Mahomes’ 2025 season is over.
The Chiefs quarterback tore his ACL in Kansas City’s loss to the Los Angeles Chargers on Sunday, the team announced.
“An MRI has confirmed that Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes sustained a torn ACL in his left knee in today’s game,” a statement from the Chiefs said. “Patrick and the club are currently exploring surgical options.”
Mahomes shared a few words on X after Sunday’s game.
“Don’t know why this had to happen. And not going to lie it’s hurts. But all we can do now is Trust in God and attack every single day over and over again,” he wrote. “Thank you Chiefs kingdom for always supporting me and for everyone who has reached out and sent prayers. I Will be back stronger than ever.”
Mahomes’ knee buckled on a tackle in the final two minutes of Kansas City’s loss to Los Angeles.
The quarterback remained down holding his knee before he was helped to the locker room. Video showed him unable to put much weight on his left leg.
With a Buffalo Bills win over the New England Patriots and the Chiefs’ 16-13 loss to the Chargers, Kansas City’s playoff hopes were officially over.
It marks the first time the Chiefs won’t make the playoffs since Patrick Mahomes became their quarterback in 2017.
