RUMOR TRADE: Phillies could dump Alec Bohm and sign $119 million All-Star to replace him

The Philadelphia Phillies failed to reach the World Series after being one of the best regular-season teams. They could look to shake things up this offseason by trading Alec Bohm.

Bohm is “on the trade block,” according to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, and could be dealt to add a superstar. USA Today’s Bob Nightengale noted that if the Phillies trade him, they could sign Astros star Alex Bregman to replace him.

“If the Phillies trade Bohm, they are expected to make a strong play for Alex Bregman, whose talent and personality would fit in perfectly with the team,” wrote Nightengale.

Bohm was named to his first career All-Star game last season. He slashed .280/.232/.448 in 2024 with 15 home runs and 97 RBIs. The Phillies could move him while his value is as high as it’s ever been.

Meanwhile, Bregman would bring a proven superstar to the Phillies. Over the last decade, Bregman has been one of the best third basemen in baseball. Bregman is a two-time All-Star, Gold Glover and Silver Slugger. He is the best third baseman on the market this year. Spotrac projects Bregman to sign a four-year, $119 million deal in free agency. He hit 26 home runs in 2024 and won his first career Gold Glove.

The Phillies need to find a way to win a World Series and Bregman could be the key. They have invested greatly in Bryce Harper, Trae Turner and J.T. Realmuto. Adding Bregman could be the last piece to bring a World Series to the Phillies.
