Boston Eyes a Blockbuster Pitching Revolution as Early Hot-Stove Aggression Positions the Red Sox for a Stunning Leap Toward 2026 Glory, Fueling Hopes of Landing Freddy Peralta and Transforming an Already Stacked Rotation Into One of the Most Formidable Forces in All of Major League Baseball

The Boston Red Sox have been one of the most active teams in the early going of MLB’s hot stove season. They have already pulled off two meaningful trades for starting pitchers in the last month. First, Boston acquired Sonny Gray from the St. Louis Cardinals, and then agreed to a deal with the Pittsburgh Pirates for Johan Oviedo.

These two trades give Boston the luxury of several starting pitcher options headed into next season, but they could use some of their tradeable assets and make an even bigger splash in the trade market for Milwaukee Brewers starter Freddy Peralta.

New Report is Good News for the Red Sox

A recent report by The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal and Will Sammon is good news for the Boston Red Sox, as they were mentioned as a team by the two MLB insiders to be interested in trading for Freddy Peralta.

No traction has been made on the trade front, but talks are fluid, and if Milwaukee does decide to move on from Peralta, expect the Red Sox to make a heavy pursuit for the two-time All-Star, who is becoming one of the game’s best.

Peralta is coming off the best season of his career in 2025. He posted a 2.70 ERA over 33 starts, 176.2 innings, 204 strikeouts, and a microscopic WHIP of 1.075. He finished top-5 in NL Cy Young voting, and has three straight seasons of 30+ starts and 200+ strikeouts.

It would cost the Red Sox a lot of trade capital, but the early reports suggest that Boston is willing to offload a couple of players, especially starters, whom they have an abundance of.

The Boston Red Sox depth chart currently features 10 starting pitching options. While there’s never such a thing as too much depth, Craig Breslow will certainly have to consider moving on from at least one or two.

What Could a Potential Trade Package Look Like?

The Red Sox have a lot of trade bait they could offer the Milwaukee Brewers. If the Brew Crew wants MLB-ready talent pitching, Boston could offer Hunter Dobbins, Payton Tolle, Connelly Early, or Kyle Harrison.

The Brewers usually do a great job at developing pitching talent, as they did with former Red Sox starter Quinn Priester last season, but Boston could also offer Milwaukee either Wilyer Abreu or Jarren Duran, both of whom have been the subject of trade rumors recently.

Just because the MLB Winter Meetings have ended doesn’t mean the hot stove is expected to cool down. The trade market features several high-quality arms that can benefit just about any MLB organization that is ready to compete in 2026. With the recent moves, the Red Sox appear to be all-in on this offer, with the aim of going to the World Series this upcoming season.
