But they need to prioritize signing Alex Bregman to a new deal, or else they’re going to lose him to a different contender. Jim Bowden of The Athletic recently projected Bregman would sign a massive $182 million deal this winter.
Bleacher Report’s Zachary Rymer recently made the bold prediction that Bregman would betray the Red Sox in free agency and sign a massive deal with the Chicago Cubs.

“The Cubs came close to signing Bregman last winter, offering him a four-year, $115 million contract that was just $5 million leaner than the one he accepted from Boston,” Rymer wrote. “Evidently, the experience of having been spurned hasn’t left any hard feelings in the Cubs’ front office. Per the report from Mooney and Sharma referenced above, they are showing ‘renewed interest’ in the three-time All-Star this winter.”
The Cubs desperately need to upgrade their roster, assuming they’re going to lose Kyle Tucker in the coming weeks.
Bregman has seemingly been on their radar for over a year now. The Cubs should have the money to make a big move like this, too.
Adding Bregman to their roster would be the perfect move for Chicago. It would boost their lineup in a big way while adding a star at the hot corner.
