Red Sox Reportedly Increase Offer For Juan Soto Amid Heavy Pursuit

Late Monday night, initial reports rolled in that five teams had submitted preliminary offers to superstar free agent Juan Soto. Those teams, as reported first by Jon Morosi of MLB Network, are the Toronto Blue Jays, the New York Yankees, the New York Mets, the Los Angeles Dodgers, and the Boston Red Sox.

Following the reports of the initial offers, a secondary report regarding the Red Sox surfaced on Tuesday morning. “SOURCE: The #RedSox increased their original offer to Juan Soto,” reported MLB Insider Héctor Gómez on Twitter, “both in years and total value.”

There is some apprehension among Red Sox fans to believe the report due to Gómez’s tendency for inaccuracies. However, analysts and insiders have repeatedly emphasized the Red Sox’s interest in Soto, and their willingness to engage in a bidding war for the 25-year-old. One of the more notable endorsements came from Red Sox legend David Ortiz when he appeared on the ITM Podcast last week.

“The way I have seen the Red Sox approaching him,” Ortiz told Joey Copponi and Scott Neville on ITM, “the only time I have seen them approaching people like that is when they really want him.”

At this time, there are no figures reported, and no reports of the other four teams that are in pursuit of Soto increasing their initial offer. If the Red Sox intend on being serious contenders for the superstar, all indications are that they will need to engage in an unprecedented bidding war, the value of which would far exceed any contract the Red Sox have previously offered.
