Latest update on New York Yankees’ pursuit of Cody Bellinger

The New York Yankees are trying to re-sign Cody Bellinger for the 2026 MLB season. In 2025, Bellinger thrived in New York, posting a .272 average, 29 home runs, and 98 runs batted in over 152 games. So, what is the latest on the Yankees’ pursuit of the 30-year-old outfielder?

According to the New York Post’s Jon Heyman, the Yankees are making a “big effort” to re-sign Bellinger to a contract this winter. If New York is able to complete a deal, it would likely mean more transactions are on the way. The Yankees would have Bellinger, Aaron Judge, Trent Grisham, Jasson Dominguez, and Spencer Jones on the roster.

There aren’t many better fits for New York than Bellinger, so the organization is rightfully pushing to find a way around the outfield logjam. This has put other teams in the mix to sign the former National League MVP, such as the Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels.

New York has the money to re-sign Bellinger, but it would take other movement to make this a logical fit. Plus, Bellinger’s strong season has created a very intriguing free agency market. Bellinger hopes to cash in after a great 2025 MLB season, and the Yankees are still trying their best to bring him back.
