The Atlanta Braves are in the midst of a very important offseason. After missing the playoffs in 2025 due to a multitude of injuries and inconsistent performance, Braves’ GM Alex Anthopoulos should be antsy to make his mark on MLB this offseason.
It’s been reported that Atlanta will be more active this winter than last, but aside from re-signing reliever Raisel Iglesias, no big moves have been made from the Braves’ front office. Granite, it’s still very early, but other NL contenders like the New York Mets are making it a priority to improve in needed areas. Could the Braves make a huge splash in the trade market by trading for Minnesota Twins center fielder Byron Buxton?

Braves-Twins Trade Idea Lands Byron Buxton Back in His Home State
The Minnesota Twins went full-blown fire sale back in July, and they are thought to be open for business once again this offseason.
In a recent article by ESPN’s Jeff Passan and Kiley McDaniel, Byron Buxton is listed as the fifth-best player in MLB with the potential to be traded this offseason:
“Buxton is willing to waive his no-trade clause — and not just for Atlanta (he’s a Georgia native) — which puts the Twins in an interesting position. If the paucity of front-line free agent outfielders prompts a team to make an offer for Buxton, how seriously would Minnesota take it?”

GettyByron Buxton may now be open to waiving his no-trade clause.
Byron Buxton is a true five-tool player, and one that the Braves should absolutely consider trading for. Even though Atlanta doesn’t necessarily have room in the outfield, this could also be quantified as the team addressing its DH issue if Marcell Ozuna walks in free agency.
Passan and McDaniel predict a 35% chance that Buxton is moved, and they named the Braves as a top fit.

What Would Byron Buxton Bring to Atlanta?
Byron Buxton is a two-time All-Star, and although there have been some doubts over the course of his career about whether he can stay healthy, in 2025, Buxton played in 126 games (most since 2017).
In those 126 games, he hit 35 home runs, stole 24 bases, and posted a 136 OPS+
For his career, Buxton is a .248 hitter with 168 home runs across 11 seasons. He’s currently signed through 2028 on a seven-year, $100 million deal.
The Twins are thought to be looking for prospect capital to help strengthen their farm system, so a deal like this would likely cost the Braves a top prospect or two, but would also solidify Atlanta as an NL contender once again.
As MLB’s Winter Meetings are just a week away, it will be interesting to see what kind of trade buzz Byron Buxton receives and if the Twins would really consider trading him.
According to BaseballReference.com, Buxton is projected to hit 26 home runs across 458 at-bats in 2026.
