New York Yankees starting pitcher Cam Schlittler has ignited a rivalry with the Boston Red Sox. Despite the bad blood, Schlittler still has respect for the city of Boston.

The rivalry sparked during the AL Wild Card series this past season, when Schlittler’s eight inning, 12 strikeout masterpiece sent the Red Sox packing, and the Yankees to the ALDS. Schlittler has been seen chirping Red Sox fans both before and after that performance.
Nonetheless, Schlittler says the chirping is not about the city, but rather a response to what he’s heard from Red Sox fans.
“I respect Boston. I know I’ve said certain things,” he told Gary Phillips of the New York Daily News. “I think when I say that, it’s more directed at the people who were coming at my family and were all over me before that start, trying to cancel me, whatever it was. I’ve never said anything bad about that team or those players or other Boston sports teams. So for me, it really has nothing to do with the actual city.”
Schlittler broke out as a standout rookie for the Yankees in 2025, pitching to a 2.96 ERA in his first season. He figures to be a mainstay in the Yankees’ rotation for the foreseeable future in 2026 and beyond.
