Report: Jerry Jones Hints at ‘Franchise-Shifting’ Trevon Diggs Development Moments After Dallas’ Dominant Victory

This is a game-changer!

The Dallas Cowboys are playing their best football in nearly two seasons after winning games against last year’s Super Bowl participants, the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, in a span of four days to keep their playoff hopes alive.

Tony Romo thinks the Cowboys can “run the table” to close out the season, while former Dallas cornerback Stephon Gilmore believes they will “win the Super Bowl” if they make the playoffs. While the schedule lightens up some over the final five weeks, they’ll need all hands on deck.

Well, what better time to welcome Trevon Diggs back to the mix? Jerry Jones told 105.3 The Fan on Friday that he expects Diggs to be on the field next Thursday against the Detroit Lions.

Cowboys might get Trevon Diggs back for Week 14 clash vs. the Lions

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones on @1053thefan said CB Trevon Diggs (knee) “will be on the field in Detroit (next Thursday), in my view, (barring a setback).”

Diggs will need to have his practice window opened for that to happen. The Cowboys will return to practice on Sunday, likely in a walkthrough capacity, to begin their Lions prep.

As for why Diggs wasn’t activated to play the Chiefs, Brian Schottenheimer cited a short week last week. The Cowboys faced the Eagles last Sunday before a quick turnaround on Thanksgiving. They technically have a “full week” ahead of facing Detroit, and Diggs wanted to play against Kansas City, per Jones.

It’s well-documented that Diggs has fallen out of favor with Cowboys fans. He hasn’t played well this season when healthy, and the mysterious nature of his concussion that caused him to miss a game didn’t help matters.

Having said that, the Cowboys need him healthy for them to reach their goals. Not only is he their most decorated cornerback, but DaRon Bland left briefly on Thursday with a foot injury. Trikweze Bridges played 25 snaps in coverage as a result, per PFF. He didn’t have a bad game, but he was in coverage on Rashee Rice’s second touchdown that gave KC a 21-20 lead in the fourth quarter.

It goes without saying that Bridges can’t be playing significant snaps for the defense to realize its potential. With Diggs (potentially) back, the Cowboys will have a rotation of Bland, Diggs, Shavon Revel, Caelen Carson, and Reddy Steward, assuming Carson’s hamstring injury isn’t long-term.

That is night and day compared to earlier in the season when Dallas was starting Bridges and Kaiir Elam.

Diggs has a lot of work to do to get back in the good graces of Cowboys fans, but the team needs him back out there. His return has the potential to be a game-changer.
