Patrick Mahomes, Chiefs receive unfortunate news before Cowboys game

The Kansas City Chiefs visit the Dallas Cowboys on Thursday, as part of one of the three Thanksgiving games the NFL scheduled for this season. The defending AFC champions arrived at AT&T Stadium with renewed expectations after pulling off a 23-20 overtime win over the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday.

The Cowboys, on the other side, also secured an important win against the Philadelphia Eagles in Week 12, improving to 5-5-1 and sending a message to the rest of the league.

Kansas City went through a lot to beat Daniel Jones and the Colts, including a couple of injuries that sounded the alarms ahead of the Cowboys game. Tight end Noah Gray was ruled out for this duel on Wednesday, and the Georgia product won’t be the only absence the Chiefs will have.

During Thursday’s edition of “Good Morning Football,” insider Ian Rapoport shared an update on guard Trey Smith (ankle sprains).

“For the Kansas City Chiefs, Trey Smith, their Pro Bowl guard, he’s also not gonna play,” Rapoport said. “He’s dealing with two sprains. One foot, two sprains. A high ankle sprain, a low ankle sprain. He is not going to play. They’re not putting him on IR yet, so we’ll see if he can beat that four-week mark.”

Smith is one of the best players in his position, and his absence could affect the game’s development. The Cowboys’ defense has looked so much better with defensive tackle Quinnen Williams and linebacker Logan Wilson, the two players they added before the trade deadline.

Kansas City can’t afford to continue to exchange wins and losses. They need to create momentum to finish the season the best way.

Kick off is set at 4.30 p.m. ET.
