Giants trade pitch grabs Freddy Peralta from Brewers to pair with Logan Webb - Yahoo Sports

For teams like the San Francisco Giants, a squad that doesn’t have the best farm system, they’ll likely have to get creative if they want to make a trade for any of the top players who could be available this winter.

Among the options that could make sense for San Francisco is Freddy Peralta of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Brewers, while they could look to move on from big league talent like Peralta to save money in the future, will also want to remain competitive.

There was a strong argument to be made last year that the Brewers were the best team in baseball, at least in the regular season.

To give all of that up would be a tough decision, especially when factoring in how bad the National League Central is and Milwaukee’s ability to consistently compete in it.

Jim Bowden of The Athletic proposed an idea that would help the Brewers stay competitive, while also giving San Francisco an above-average arm in Peralta.

His trade would move on from 27-year-old Landen Roupp and 18-year-old Jhonny Level.

“The Giants can offer a rotation-ready arm and a middle-of-the-diamond prospect who could help the Brewers in a few years.

“Roupp, 27, had his breakout season at the major-league level in 2025 before suffering a left knee sprain in late August that didn’t require surgery but ended his season. Before that, he made 22 starts, posting a 3.80 ERA with 102 strikeouts in 106 2/3 innings. Batters struggled against his secondary pitches, highlighted by the fact that they hit just .197 against his curveball and .192 against his changeup. He profiles as a mid-rotation type starter but is controllable through 2030,” he wrote.

Roupp would be the biggest name in this trade from San Francisco, and although there’s certainly intrigue in Level, it’s fair to mention just how young he is and all the question marks surrounding players of his age.
