Dodgers reorganize coaching staff, give Bob Geren a new role – Orange County Register

It may be a bit of an understatement to say that Bo Bichette was a major thorn in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ side during the World Series.

The 27-year-old hit .348 in the World Series to go along with a .923 OPS. He clubbed a massive three-run homer off Shohei Ohtani in Game 7 which at the time looked like potentially the game-winning hit. Bichette did all of this essentially playing on one knee.

Now out on the open market as a free agent, he’s looking to cash in on a longterm deal.

David Schoenfield of ESPN recently delved into the potential offseason plans for the Dodgers. It’s of his opinion that LA should look into signing Bichette to a multi-year deal. Not only would it hurt World Series foe Toronto, but it would also improve the offensive quality of the lineup in the process.

In fact, Schoenfield thinks Bichette is the player that would best help the team win their third straight World Series title.

“Dodgers second basemen hit .239 and ranked 24th in the majors in OPS. The offense hit just .233 in the postseason — and .213 after the wild-card round. The Dodgers hit enough home runs, especially in key moments, to win the World Series, but it was the starting rotation that carried them to the title. The offense is getting older, with Freddie Freeman and Mookie Betts now in the post-peak stage of their careers.

“And the money? With a projected five-year, $130 million contract, Bichette easily fits into the Dodgers’ payroll and still leaves them money to sign a closer.”

The fit is an interesting one. Bichette is not a good fielder, and there’s real consideration to the thought that he’d be better served at second base or at third base. The shortstop position is occupied by Betts, and he’s coming off a stellar season with the glove.

Having said that, even if it’s highly likely Bichette ends up elsewhere, the Dodgers would have no issues fitting him in somewhere given how potent his bat is. A contract projected at $130 million would easily be within the realm of possibilities given how the team spends.
