Orioles predicted to poach starter from Red Sox after Grayson Rodriguez trade

With the many needs the Baltimore Orioles have on the mound, it’ll be interesting to see how the front office attempts to fix the apparent need.
On the surface, getting rid of Grayson Rodriguez didn’t make too much sense, considering what they already needed on the mound, but it’s evident that the front office has some type of plan.
There would’ve been no reason to trade a player with multiple years of control, and as young as Rodriguez is, if they didn’t plan on going out and spending some money on pitching.
Bleacher Report recently predicted the starting rotations for every team in Major League Baseball, and Joel Reuter of the outlet predicted that Baltimore would add to its pitching staff by landing Lucas Giolito, who last appeared in 2025 for the Boston Red Sox.
“The Orioles have 329.2 innings to replace between Tomoyuki Sugano, Charlie Morton and Zach Eflin, and they also flipped Grayson Rodriguez to the Angels for slugger Taylor Ward earlier this week.
“Full seasons from Trevor Rogers and Kyle Bradish will go a long way after they made a combined 24 starts, so one quality veteran arm to slot somewhere in the No. 2/3 range in their rotation might be all they need. Lucas Giolito reestablished himself as that caliber of starter after a strong campaign in Boston,” he wrote.
Giolito, a former first-rounder in the 2012 MLB Draft, has played in nine MLB campaigns.
He posted a 3.41 ERA for the Red Sox a year ago, throwing in 145.0 innings.
If that’s the same type of stuff he’d have in Baltimore, he’d be a great addition.
