Byron Buxton is one of the most talented baseball players to ever don a Minnesota Twins uniform.

He’s also coming off one of his best seasons, one in which he stayed mostly healthy and shone brightly.

Buxton’s 2025 season earned him an 11th place finish in American League MVP voting, summarizing his importance to the Twins.

Now, it’s a critical offseason.

At every turn, Buxton has pushed back on the idea of wanting out of Minnesota, even as the Twins have struggled. They’re the franchise that drafted him, the only professional baseball organization he’s ever known.

But in a new report Tuesday, ESPN’s Jeff Passan indicated the door might be open:

“Buxton has a full no-trade clause, so there are automatically impediments to any deal. His desire to leave the only franchise he has ever played for depends on their other moves.”

That sounds a lot like someone behind the scenes trying to put a little pressure on the Twins to improve.

Ironically, Minnesota’s most likely move this offseason might be trading away right-handed pitcher Joe Ryan. That certainly wouldn’t make the Twins better.

Buxton will turn 32 in December. He knows his peak days are numbered, especially considering his injury history.

He doesn’t seem like the personality type to push his way out of town. But if the arrow doesn’t start pointing up this offseason, maybe Buxton would finally consider what he might look like in a brand new uniform.
