The Green Bay Packers haven’t scored 13 or fewer points in three consecutive games since 1999.
That stat, via ESPN, is what the Packers will hope to avoid matching when they take on the New York Giants on Sunday.
The solution might be simpler than you’d think: Just give the ball to the guy with the $220 million contract, quarterback Jordan Love.
“As a player you always want that,” Love said of wanting the responsibility. “You always want the pressure to be on you, to be able to get the team out of funks… You’ve just got to trust the process and take one play at a time. But I love having the ball in my hands at all times, and I love that pressure.”
Love has played a lot closer to his exceptional 2023 level this season rather than his bumpy 2024 performance.
But Love can still find his good and bad traits coexisting on a particular play, and it’s something the Packers sometimes try to take off his plate by giving the ball to Josh Jacobs in the backfield.
Love clearly wouldn’t mind being allowed to sling the football early and often.
The Packers are 5-3-1. They’re in the playoff hunt. They have no business losing to the Giants on Sunday.
To get past a talented front seven of New York, Green Bay will need to prove it can throw. That’s up to Love showing off some early efficiency.
If Love looks good early, everything else can follow into place for the Packers to end their drought and put up some serious points.
