In a remote field, a two-year-old lurcher dog was found tightly chained to a metal fence post. Nearby, her six newbornĀ Ā puppies, too young to open their eyes, lay without food or water.
Despite her restraints, the mother was seen attempting to nurse her litter.
It remains unclear how long they had been abandoned there. According to rescuers cited by the Daily Mail, it is believed the mother and her puppies were left alone soon after birth.
Upon discovery, all seven dogs were taken to the ISPCAās national animal facility in County Longford, where they received urgent medical attention.
Fortunately, despite their ordeal in the cold and without food, both the mother and her puppies were in good health.
The puppies, named Billy Ray, Dixie, Dolly, Dotty, June, and Patsy, will remain at the ISPCA until they are old enough to find new homes.
