49ers place a player on IR, elevate two others for Week 12 vs. the Packers

The San Francisco 49ers made a number of roster moves ahead of their Week 12 matchup against the Green Bay Packers.

Linebacker Tatum Bethune is heading to Injured Reserve. He had previously been ruled out with a knee injury, and will now miss at least the next four games. That opened up a roster spot for the 49ers to promote safety Tashaun Gipson to the active roster.

They had previously looked to elevate a player at the position weekly, with Adrian Amos and Gipson being the call-ups in recent weeks.

In addition, the 49ers had two standard elevations, as linebacker Jalen Graham and cornerback Nick McCloud were called up to the active roster. McCloud was called up last week to make his 49ers debut, playing in 43 percent of the special teams snaps after coming over from the New York Giants.

Graham is likely up to play in Bethune’s role as a special-teamer. He is making his first appearance since Week 6, when he played in 63 percent of the special teams snaps.

Veteran offensive lineman Jon Feliciano was downgraded to out, as he’ll miss another week before making his return. Feliciano’s window was activated two weeks ago, so he’ll have to be activated next week to come back for the 2024 season. It’s not out of the question that he could even take over a starting spot when returning, depending on how healthy the veteran truly is.

Lastly, the 49ers did not elevate quarterback Tanner Mordecai, meaning the team will be without an emergency quarterback this week, rolling with just starter Brandon Allen and backup Joshua Dobbs.

The 49ers will be without a number of key players, as quarterback Brock Purdy, defensive end Nick Bosa, and cornerback Charvarius Ward are all out for Sunday’s game. So, it’ll be a different outlook for the team as they look to secure what could be a must-win with the 49ers sitting at 5-5 on the season.
