Miguel Rojas’ wife knew the Dodgers veteran would come up big with the season on the line.

Reflecting on the Dodgers’ wild 5-4 win over the Blue Jays in Game 7 of the World Series, manager Dave Roberts revealed postgame early Sunday that Rojas’ biggest supporter, wife Mariana, spoke his game-tying homer at the top of the ninth into existence.

“You know what’s funny? I just heard a story just before I came on set, his wife told him he was going to hit a home run in the World Series, and he wasn’t even playing. And she kept telling him, ‘Miguel, you’re going to hit a home run,’ and he’s like, ‘Babe, I’m not even playing,’ yesterday played, didn’t hit a homer. Today she told him, ‘Miguel, you’re going to hit a home run today,’ and sure enough,” Roberts shared on Fox.

That all changed in the ninth, when Rojas, the No. 9 hitter, crushed a home run against Blue Jays closer Jeff Hoffman to even the score at 4-4.

His heroics only continued from there, when Rojas fired the ball home in the bottom of the ninth to stop Isiah Kiner-Falefa from scoring what could have been the game-sealing and World Series-winning run as catcher Will Smith narrowly got his foot down on the plate.

Rojas, in his second stint with the Dodgers after beginning his career with the club in 2014, said he “never walked to the plate thinking about hitting a home run in that situation.”

“I just wanted to stay up the middle, try to hit a fastball. I definitely chased on the first one. I tried to lock it in and be on the fastball after that, let the ball travel a little bit more. … When he hung me the slider, I just put a good swing on it,” he said, according to The Athletic.

For the Dodgers, specifically star first baseman Freddie Freeman, there was no one more deserving of the moment than Rojas.“Miguel’s been grinding, just doing whatever he could to help this team win. To come up with that moment when you’re 36 years old and says he’s going to retire after next season, to have that moment in the World Series in Game 7, just absolutely incredible. It saved our year,” Freeman said, per MLB.com.

Rojas, an impending free agent, said he is looking to retire after the 2026 season.
