Rangers losing an MLB-high 12 players to free agency

Shawn Armstrong 2025 MLB Highlights! (Mid-Season)

The Texas Rangers didn’t have the 2025 season they would’ve wanted.

In 2026, the roster might look a decent amount different.

The MLB season ended on Saturday night when the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays in Game 7 of the World Series. That means the start of the offseason.

On Sunday, the MLBPA put out a list of the veterans who are now free agents.

There are no more on one team than the Rangers have on theirs.

A dozen Rangers are set to hit the open market:

  • Shawn Armstrong
  • Patrick Corbin
  • Daniel Coulombe
  • Jonathan Gray
  • Merrill Kelly
  • Tyler Mahle
  • Christopher Martin
  • Phil Maton
  • Hoby Milner
  • Dylan Moore
  • Donovan Solano
  • Rowdy Tellez

Amazingly, almost none of those guys feel like players the Rangers have to bring back.

There’s a bunch of starting pitching on the list, but not much current production.

The bullpen arms are more solid, but even they aren’t must-haves.

The likes of Solano and Tellez and Moore can still be platoon bats, at best.

Mostly, it’s an underwhelming class. The Rangers will have a lot of gaps to fill for next season, but most of it will come on the fringes of the roster anyway, so the new-look team could depend on which shrewd pickups this month work out.
