Red Sox Not Considering Intriguing Jarren Duran Position Change

The Boston Red Sox reportedly aren’t considering making a change to Jarren Duran’s position in 2026.

Duran played left field last season, but was selected as an infielder in the MLB Draft. Although the Red Sox could use an upgrade at second base, Boston isn’t considering moving Duran to second, according to The Athletic’s Jen McCaffrey.

“We got a few questions about this possibility, but to my knowledge, it’s not something the Red Sox are considering,” McCaffrey wrote about a possible Duran move to second base, in a piece published on Friday.

“Duran came up through the minors as a second baseman, and in theory, it makes sense as a solution to the team’s problems. But given he’s never taken infield reps in the majors, I think it could worsen the team’s infield defense rather than help.”

With the Red Sox not expected to move Duran to second, Boston still has options at the position. The Red Sox primarily used Kristian Campbell, David Hamilton and Romy Gonzalez at second base last season.

The Red Sox have an $8 million team option on Duran, which they will need to decide on next week. Duran is projected to make 8.4 million in arbitration if Boston declines the club option, according to MLB Trade Rumors.

Duran hit .256 wth 16 home runs and 84 RBIs last season with the Red Sox.
