Syracuse, N.Y. — New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone was in attendance for Syracuse’s football game against North Carolina on Friday night in the JMA Wireless Dome.

Boone was spotted after dining at a steakhouse in downtown Syracuse earlier in the week.

Boone, who slipped on a Tar Heels hat while taking in the game from a lower-level end zone seat, has been popping up at North Carolina football games throughout the fall.

Boone’s son, Brandon, is a student assistant on the North Carolina football staff.

Boone just completed his eighth year as Yankees manager. He’s 697-497 as a manager and led the Yankees to the World Series in 2024 before losing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in five games.

A 12-year major leaguer, Boone was a National League All-Star as a player for the Cincinnati Reds in 2003 before being traded to the Yankees. That fall in New York, he famously eliminated the rival Boston Red Sox in Game 7 of the American League Championship Series with a walk-off home run in the 11th inning.

Other notable figures in attendance at the dome Friday night were Jordon Hudson, North Carolina coach Bill Belichick’s partner, former Syracuse quarterback Kyle McCord and ACC commissioner Jim Phillips.

McCord received one of the loudest ovations from the home crowd on a night the Orange turned to walk-on Joe Filardi, also a member of the school’s lacrosse team, as its starting quarterback.

McCord rewrote the school and conference record book in his one season with the Orange last season before being drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
