Final Week 12 injury report spells worst-case disaster for 49ers

42. Fox. Sunday, Nov. 24. 49ers-Packers Preview. 49. 5-5. Packers -2.5. 4:25 p.m. ET. 7-3

The 49ers are going to be without both Brock Purdy and Nick Bosa for their high-profile Week 12 affair against the Packers.

The 2024 season doesn’t seem poised to replicate the same kind of second-half magic for the San Francisco 49ers that the 2021 and 2022 campaigns had.

Instead, 2024 is shaping up to be a lot like that dreadful injury-plagued 2020 campaign.

The Niners travel to take on the 7-3 Green Bay Packers in Week 12, and for a San Francisco squad that’s already dealt with plenty of injuries this season, news ahead of the game got even worse when it became clear two of head coach Kyle Shanahan’s key players would miss the affair.

Quarterback Brock Purdy suffered a shoulder injury during the Week 11 loss to the Seattle Seahawks, which forced him into an abbreviated practice and subsequent MRI.

After missing Friday’s practice, Shanahan told reporters Purdy would be out of action in Week 12 at Lambeau Field, giving way to backup quarterback Brandon Allen, who hasn’t started a regular-season game since 2021 when he was with the Cincinnati Bengals.

If that wasn’t bad enough, defensive end Nick Bosa (hip/oblique) exited Week 11 in the second half, paving the way for the Hawks’ late-game surge that resulted in a 20-17 Seattle victory.

That was a key turning point in the game, suggesting Green Bay might be able to generate similar success against a shorthanded Niners defense.

In addition to Purdy, Bosa will also miss Week 12.

Purdy and Bosa highlight the list of injuries for Sunday’s contest, but they’re not the only notable names.

If there’s good news, tight end George Kittle (hamstring) is returning from an injury that ruled him out during Week 11, giving Allen a much-needed boost on offense.

Meanwhile, Ward is still dealing with the trauma and tragedy of his young daughter’s tragic passing. It’s likely rookie cornerback Renardo Green ends up starting in Ward’s place again.

San Francisco kicks off against Green Bay on Sunday, Nov. 24 at 4:25 p.m. ET.
