COWBOYS CRUNCH TIME: Dallas stands inching from triumph, yet insiders whisper of a single glaring flaw threatening to derail their season, fans glued to every play as tension skyrockets — will the clock run out before they patch the crack?..ll

The Dallas Cowboys, through eight weeks, are exactly who we thought they would be, and that is a team that can beat anyone due to their offense but also lose to anyone due to their defense.

After the first two months of the season, Dallas sits at 3-4-1 after its 44-24 loss to the Denver Broncos that once again shone a light on this team’s warts, particularly on defense, although Dak Prescott and the offense had a poor outing as well.

Having not won consecutive games yet this season, first-time head coach Brian Schottenheimer has his work cut out to get his team playing more consistent football because the gap between their best and worst is massive.

And running back Javonte Williams knows what the team must do if it is to make a run at playoff football.

“We just got to be more consistent,” Williams said. “We got everything that we need. We just got to put it all together, and you can’t just do it one game and not do it the next game. We got to be more consistent if we want to go where we want to go.”

Cowboys have to start winning streak vs. Cardinals

It has to start somewhere, and the Cowboys have been good at AT&T Stadium this season, and the Cardinals haven’t been world-beaters either, so it appears this is the chance for the Cowboys to at least get back to .500 before their bye.

Then the Las Vegas Raiders, before a brutal three-game stretch that sees Dallas play the Philadelphia Eagles, Kansas City Chiefs, and Detroit Lions, so Schottenheimer’s team needs to start banking wins if they are to make what would be an unlikely playoff spot.

Two games that the Cowboys “should” win, and it’s a chance to start building momentum.

But to do that, Dallas must be consistent, something it hasn’t been at all this year.
