TRADE REPORT: Fans shocked as Cowboys consider trading their MILLION-DOLLAR playmaker — what’s behind this unexpected move?

Cowboys Playmaker Named Most Likely Player To Be Traded

Jalen Tolbert

The Dallas Cowboys have been a popular franchise mentioned in NFL trade rumors as potential buyers at the deadline, but the team could also look to cut ties with a few veterans as well. ESPN outlined the Cowboys’ potential outlook ahead of the NFL trade deadline on November 4, 2025.

Dallas wideout Jalen Tolbert was tabbed as the most likely Cowboys player to be traded given the emergence of George Pickens and KaVontae Turpin.

“He is on the final year of his deal, and his production has dropped alongside CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens,” ESPN’s Todd Archer wrote in an October 29, story titled, “2025 NFL trade deadline: Players to watch, team needs, buzz.” “KaVontae Turpin is taking more snaps as the No. 3 receiver, and the Cowboys like the potential of Ryan Flournoy, who had 114 yards against the Jets.

“Tolbert provides valuable insurance in case something happens to the top two receivers, but receiver-needy teams might be willing to part with a draft pick or defensive player for him.”

Cowboys Rumors: Dallas Could Cut Ties with WR Jalen Tolbert Ahead of NFL Trade Deadline

Tolbert is in the final months of a four-year, $5.1 million rookie contract. Pickens is also headed towards NFL free agency this offseason and is expected to be the Cowboys’ priority.

If the Dallas front office believes the team is unlikely to re-sign Tolbert, the franchise could be wise to get something in return for the playmaker in the coming days.

Through the first eight games, Tolbert has put up modest numbers with 14 receptions for 172 receiving yards and one touchdown.

What Would the Cowboys Get in a Trade for WR Jalen Tolbert?

The question is what Dallas could net in a trade for the former third rounder. Is a future late-round pick worth giving up depth at receiver?

Tolbert has not exactly lived up to expectations after a standout college football career at South Alabama. This makes it challenging for Dallas to land anything substantial in a trade for the wideout.

The Cowboys are talking a lot like buyers ahead of the deadline, but the truth is with a 3-4-1 record, Dallas could also be sellers. Dallas faces an uphill battle to contend this season, especially given how poor the defense has performed.

Cowboys Reveal the Team Is Not Close to Striking a Blockbuster Trade

The Cowboys have been all over the place when it comes to discussing potential trades. On one hand, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has pointed to the team’s future draft picks gained in the Micah Parsons trade as potentially increasing the chances of making another deal.

After the team’s blowout loss to the Denver Broncos, Jones revealed that the team was not close to a trade for star pass rushers like Maxx Crosby or Trey Hendrickson.

“There hasn’t been anything close to a deal,” Jones told 105.3 The Fan, per The Athletic’s Jon Machota. “We’re looking at all phases of our roster. … I don’t know if we will or not (make a trade).”

Things could change, but it sure does not sound like Dallas is close to making a significant deal.

“I can tell you this right now, there is not a trade in my mind, the beginning and end of one, as we sit here and talk … that I would do,” Jones added.
