🔥 JUST IN: Cubs Set to Make Bold Move for Padres’ 4.55 ERA Starter in Free Agency – Could This Be the Pitching Boost They Need to Dominate the NL Central?

The Chicago Cubs have some things to address this offseason. After what was considered to be a successful season for the Cubs that saw them make the playoffs for the first time since 2020, expectations will surround the team next season.

There have been recent reports that Chicago may be a top suitor for the upcoming free agent Dylan Cease. Starting pitching is something the Cubs have on their wish list of things to address in the offseason.

Dylan Cease is linked to the Chicago Cubs

Bruce Levine of 670 The Score reported that there may be a connection between Dylan Cease and the Chicago Cubs. Cease is, of course, really familiar with the Chicago area after spending several years with the White Sox and being drafted by the Cubs.

In a recent predictions piece by The Athletic’s Jim Bowden, Cease received a contract prediction of six years, $187 million. Would the Cubs consider paying that much to Cease?

Considering the Cubs dealt with several injuries to the starting rotation this season, it feels like they could consider entering the bidding market for Cease. Dylan Cease has started 32+ games in five straight seasons and has also struck out 200+ batters in the last five years.

His ERA inflated a bit this year at 4.55, but he’s continued to show some of the more electric stuff in baseball, and if he can keep the walks in check, Cease can be one of the best pitchers in MLB. He’s finished top-four in CY Young voting twice in his career.

The San Diego Padres probably have the inside track to re-signing Cease, but if they show hesitancy in opening up the checkbook, the Cubs could be a team to keep an eye on in one of the top free agent sweepstakes.
