DODGERS DRAMA: A $74M injury lingers in the background, possibly the only reason Andy Pages is taking the field in the World Series, and the pressure cooker is about to explode..ll

Dodgers' $74M lingering injury may be the only reason Andy Pages is starting during World Series | Sporting News

The Los Angeles Dodgers were flat-out embarrassed by the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 1, losing 11-4. It was their worst outing of October and didn’t resemble the dominant team fans have come to expect. The Blue Jays came ready to play, while the Dodgers clearly did not. After the loss, Derek Jeter issued a warning.

“Tomorrow is a must-win for the Los Angeles Dodgers. You do not want to go down to a team like this having to win four out of five,” Jeter said.

One of the biggest storylines of the series has been Andy Pages and his continued struggles at the plate. Heading into the game, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts made it clear that Pages’ spot in the lineup was in jeopardy.

“Dave Roberts says he’s ‘keeping a close eye’ on Andy Pages and has considered making a change if his struggles continue,” Dodgers Blue posted.

On Saturday, Pages went hitless once again, leading many to call for Roberts to make a move.

“Andy Pages grounds to second and is now 3-40 this postseason. It’s been time for a change,” Dodgers Nation’s Doug McKain posted.

However, there may be one key reason why Pages hasn’t been benched yet — the injury to Tommy Edman.

“Edman in CF, Call in LF and Kiké at 2B makes way too much sense. I guess Edman’s ankle must still be pretty bad if he can’t be an option in CF,” Dodgers writer Blake Harris wrote.

Edman has been battling a nagging ankle injury, which may be keeping him out of center field and, in turn, keeping Pages in the lineup. The second-year player is struggling at the worst possible time for Los Angeles.

There’s little room for error now, and Edman’s veteran presence would make sense if he were healthy. But if his ankle limits his mobility, there’s not much Roberts can do.
