White Sox Report Card: How Kyle Teel Graded Out In 2025

The White Sox improved by 19 wins from the 2024 to the 2025 season, marking significant improvement. Additionally, the White Sox played much better than a 60-102 team for most of the second half, as they had some important contributions from the rookies on the roster.

As we dissect the 2025 season, we will take a look at how each player performed, as well as their outlook for 2026 and beyond. The next player we will take a look is Kyle Teel.

Kyle Teel was considered the biggest offseason acquisition for the Chicago White Sox, as he was the headliner in the return for Garrett Crochet. At that time, it was expected that Teel would make his debut with the White Sox at some point in 2025, and that was the case.

However, Teel impressed and exceeded any expectations laid out for him in his first big league action. This is unfamiliar for White Sox fans, as they are used to prospects taking a while to break out, or ultimately turning into a bust.

Teel played in 78 games, hitting .273 with eight homeruns, 35 RBIs, and a fantastic .375 OBP. He slugged .411 and had a very good .786 OPS. For a rookie catcher in his first taste of the major leagues, this is very impressive.

According to Baseball Reference, he accumulated 1.9 WAR, which is impressive in just 78 games. If you take that over a full season, he is sitting at 4+ WAR. That would be among the best in the league at the catcher position.

If Teel’s performance at the plate wasn’t impressive enough, he had a very good season behind the plate as well. Teel has a cannon for an arm, and he showed it off many times this season.

This was the strongest throw from behind the plate yesterday. Kyle Teel threw this ball 84.4 MPH, released it in .70 seconds, for a pop time of 1.91. pic.twitter.com/ColR2beBEi

Teel is only 23 so he will continue to improve all areas of his game. Teel and Edgar Quero have the catching position locked down in Chicago for the next 6+ years and it will be the best tandem in the major leagues.

You could not have asked for a much better season out of Kyle Teel, so he grades out as an A. I would not be surprised if he is the best player on the team next year, as he has 20+ homerun potential and a great eye at the plate.
