Foxborough, October 2025
A wave of controversy erupted after Colin Cowherd, the renowned sports host of The Herd, bluntly declared that the New England Patriotsā 5ā2 record is an āillusionā and āthe luckiest streak in the NFL this year.ā Cowherd argued that the Patriotsā victory over the Buffalo Bills was āmerely the result of opponentsā mistakes,ā while their win against the Tennessee Titans was āhardly noteworthy since they had just lost their head coach days earlier.ā

But less than 24 hours later, Rob Gronkowski, a legend of Gillette Stadium, delivered a fiery response on NFL Networkās Good Morning Football. With his signature smile but a resolute tone, Gronkowski said:
āI was once a part of this team. And if thereās one thing the Patriots donāt rely on, itās luck. You donāt beat the Bills, you donāt lead the AFC East, just by luck. Thatās effort, thatās culture, thatās New England DNA.ā
The former legendary tight end also reiterated that the āstandard of winningā in Foxborough is never measured solely by the scoreboard, but by how they overcome adversity:
āWhen a team is underestimated yet still fights and still winsāthatās not luck, thatās grit.ā
Gronk also defended Drake Maye, the Patriotsā rookie QB, who is steadily steering the team back to a winning track:
āHeās got the spirit of a champion. You see him practicing every morning, talking to his teammates, staying calm in big momentsāthose are things you canāt call luck.ā
Gronkās remarks quickly spread like wildfire across social media. Thousands of Patriots fans left supportive comments: āThatās our Gronkāhitting the nail on the head.ā
While Cowherd continued to insist that the Patriots āwill collapse in November,ā Gronkowski sent a cryptic message:
āKeep doubting them. Because every time you think the Patriots are doneāthatās when they come back the strongest.ā
And in Foxborough, that message rings out like a familiar bell every fall: Never underestimate New England. šā¤ļø
