Foxborough, October 2025
A wave of controversy erupted after Colin Cowherd, the renowned sports host of The Herd, bluntly declared that the New England Patriotsâ 5â2 record is an âillusionâ and âthe luckiest streak in the NFL this year.â Cowherd argued that the Patriotsâ victory over the Buffalo Bills was âmerely the result of opponentsâ mistakes,â while their win against the Tennessee Titans was âhardly noteworthy since they had just lost their head coach days earlier.â

But less than 24 hours later, Rob Gronkowski, a legend of Gillette Stadium, delivered a fiery response on NFL Networkâs Good Morning Football. With his signature smile but a resolute tone, Gronkowski said:
âI was once a part of this team. And if thereâs one thing the Patriots donât rely on, itâs luck. You donât beat the Bills, you donât lead the AFC East, just by luck. Thatâs effort, thatâs culture, thatâs New England DNA.â
The former legendary tight end also reiterated that the âstandard of winningâ in Foxborough is never measured solely by the scoreboard, but by how they overcome adversity:
âWhen a team is underestimated yet still fights and still winsâthatâs not luck, thatâs grit.â
Gronk also defended Drake Maye, the Patriotsâ rookie QB, who is steadily steering the team back to a winning track:
âHeâs got the spirit of a champion. You see him practicing every morning, talking to his teammates, staying calm in big momentsâthose are things you canât call luck.â
Gronkâs remarks quickly spread like wildfire across social media. Thousands of Patriots fans left supportive comments: âThatâs our Gronkâhitting the nail on the head.â
While Cowherd continued to insist that the Patriots âwill collapse in November,â Gronkowski sent a cryptic message:
âKeep doubting them. Because every time you think the Patriots are doneâthatâs when they come back the strongest.â
And in Foxborough, that message rings out like a familiar bell every fall: Never underestimate New England. đâ€ïž
