ATLANTA – The Atlanta Braves congratulate LHP Chris Sale on winning the 2024 National League Cy Young Award. Sale secured the honor for the first time in his 14-season career.

Sale, 35, made 29 starts this season and went 18-3 with a 2.38 earned run average (47 ER/177.2 IP), leading the majors in both wins and ERA. He also led the National League in strikeouts, becoming the first Triple Crown winner in the Senior Circuit since Los Angeles’ Clayton Kershaw in 2011. Sale also became the first Triple Crown winner in franchise history.

In addition to this Cy Young victory, Sale’s 2024 performance was also recognized via his eighth career All-Star appearance, a Rawlings Gold Glove Award, a First-Team All-MLB nomination and the National League Comeback Player of the Year Award.

First distributed in 1956, the Cy Young Award has been garnered by a Brave eight times, the second-highest total by any franchise (Los Angeles Dodgers, 12). Sale joins Warren Spahn (1957), Tom Glavine (1991, ‘98), Greg Maddux (1993-‘95) and John Smoltz (1996) to achieve the distinction with the team.

Sale, a native of Lakeland, Fla., finished top-six in American League Cy Young voting each year from 2012-‘18, also achieving A.L. All-Star honors in each of those seasons. Additionally, the 6-foot-6 left-hander received A.L. MVP votes from 2015-‘18, finishing as high as ninth.

To commemorate this award, the Atlanta Braves will give away a Chris Sale Cy Young Bobblehead for the first 15,000 fans on April 9, presented by Delta Air Lines.
