The New England Patriots took down the Tennessee Titans 31-13 in Week 7 to earn their fourth straight win, pushing their record to 5-2 on the season. Per usual, the team was powered to victory by second-year quarterback Drake Maye.
In what is becoming a recurring theme, Maye looked like a superstar against the Titans. He completed 21 of his 23 pass attempts for 222 yards and two touchdowns, while also rushing for another 62 yards on eight carries.
The Pats had high hopes for Maye entering the season, but nobody expected him to be playing at an MVP-caliber level so soon. With another strong outing in the books, Maye moved up one spot in Fox Sports’ latest MVP power rankings, going from the No. 5 spot to No. 4.
“Maye would like to play against the Tennessee Titans every week,” Eric Williams wrote. “The North Carolina product completed 21 of 23 pass attempts (91.3%!) for 222 yards and two scores. He posted a 135.9 passer rating in New England’s runaway victory over the Titans.”
“With a 75.2% completion rate, Maye is the second player in NFL history to complete at least 75% of his passes through the first seven games of a season, joining Drew Brees (77.4% in 2018).”

Through seven games, Maye has thrown for 1,744 yards and 12 touchdowns, while also rushing for 200 yards and another pair of scores on 44 carries. Maye’s completion percentage of 75.2% is tops in the league, as is his 116.4 passer rating.
With each passing week, Maye is continuing to prove his skeptics wrong, and he appears to be a real candidate in the MVP race. At the end of the day, though, Maye has made it clear that winning is the most important thing to him, and he will look to help New England win its fifth straight game in Week 8 against the Cleveland Browns.
