OCTOBER TAKEOFF: The Dodgers are wheels up and locked in — heading to Toronto for Games 1 and 2, chasing glory, revenge, and a legacy that could rewrite this decade’s baseball story before the dust even settles…ll

Los Angeles Dodgers take off to Toronto for World Series Game 1 and 2 against the Blue Jays - ABC7 Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES (KABC) — The Los Angeles Dodgers are on their way to Toronto for Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.

AIR7 video shows the team’s plane taking off from Los Angeles International Airport around 2 p.m. on Wednesday. They will land in Toronto later Wednesday night, giving them a couple of days to prepare for Game 1 against the Blue Jays.

The road warriors are at it again. Dodgers players got on the bus at Dodger Stadium and left Chavez Ravine around noon, headed to Canada to start their third straight playoff series away from home.

Although, playing away has mattered very little so far this October. The boys in blue are back in the World Series for the second year in a row, without a real scare so far this postseason.

The Dodgers have been perfect on the road, 4-0 this postseason. If their road streak continues and they keep winning games away from Dodger Stadium, they have a chance to return to L.A. on Monday and clinch the World Series at home, something they haven’t done since 1963.

“They’re a juggernaut, but it’s baseball, anything can happen, but I still believe in my Dodgers, though,” said Eddie Paz from Alhambra.

Right as official World Series gear was stocked and shelved at a Dick’s Sporting Goods in Pasadena, fans were there to snatch it up.

Shohei Ohtani’s epic performance Friday night apparently has fans grabbing any merchandise with his name on it.

“Usually, I have my postseason hat on, but I came in to get the World Series one before I go to work,” said Javier Chavez from Commerce.

Chavez is leaving room on his arm for hopefully his third Dodgers World Series tattoo.

“I’ve got to figure out where it will go, but it will go back-to-back, so that will be a different one. It will say back-to-back right there,” Chavez said, showing off his Dodgers sleeve.

At the Citadel Outlets, the Dodgers Clubhouse store saw a lot of people rushing to pick up the special World Series gear they missed out on last year.

“I’m going to say this in the most humble way possible… I’m looking to sell the ball,” David Flores said. An expert says the Dodger fan could be a soon-to-be multi-millionaire.

“Everything got sold out, too, so we barely got like, jerseys with like the patch with the 2024,” said Rosi Lucas from South Los Angeles.

“We’re trying to get what we can. There’s not a lot of sizes, so get it now before it’s gone,” said Alejandrina Martinez.

Dionicio Silva from Whittier said he got his Dodgers World Series gear online the second they clinched last Friday, but it hasn’t been delivered yet, so he’s doubling down with gear in hand before the fall classic.

“I ordered it immediately, as soon as they won. I actually ordered it online, but they haven’t shipped it. That’s why I came to get it over here,” Silva said.

Dodgers fans are looking forward to Friday, but also stopped to reflect that Wednesday is the one-year anniversary of Fernando Valenzuela’s death. A memorial outside a mural of El Toro grew even larger on Wednesday in his honor.

Some die-hard fans told Eyewitness News they are skipping the road trip to Canada and waiting in L.A. for the team to return up 2-0.

“I went to Texas when they won in 2020. I was there… Well, we’ve got Black Snell this Friday, so it’s looking real good on Monday. I’m not gonna say sweep but…” Chavez said.

Only four times in history has a team that swept to get to the World Series — in this case, the Dodgers — faced a team that went to Game 7 to get to the World Series — in this case, the Blue Jays. In each of the four times it’s happened, the team that went to Game 7 went on to win the World Series.

If you’re looking to go to a home game Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday, it will cost you a pretty penny. Getting in is about $800 for the worst seats in the house.
